Charles Dickens reaches his 200th Birthday

Today marks the 200th birthday of Charles Dickens, arguably the best-loved of nineteenth-century authors, an anniversary that is being celebrated around the world: 24-hour ‘readathons’, celebrity readings from his works, special church services, conferences, and a myriad of other events are scheduled.

Ashgate is participating in the festivities by offering our customers a 20% discount on all Dickens titles (until the end of 2012), including A Library of Essays on Charles Dickens, forthcoming this August, Dickens and Empire, Dickens and the Rise of Divorce, and Commodity Culture in Dickens’s Household Words, to name just a few.

To get the 20% discount you need to enter a special discount code, which you can find on our Dickens devoted webpage,, where you can also download our anniversary leaflet. This page will be continually updated throughout the year with Dickens-related commemorations supported by Ashgate.

We would love to hear from you if you are working on a monograph or essay collection on Dickens or another nineteenth-Century topic. For information on submitting a proposal, please contact the commissioning editor Ann Donahue.
